Aulden Farm Bearded Iris Page

Despite breeding advances in the beardless irises, the true colours available in the bearded iris are still hard to beat. They require a sunny well-drained position. Heights and flowering times vary:-
Smaller Dwarf Bearded (SDB) April c.30cm
Intermediate Bearded (IB) late April/May c.50cm
Border Bearded (BB) late May/June c.60cm
Miniature Tall Bearded (MTB) As BB, but with daintier flowers.
Tall Bearded (TB) late May/June c.90cm

Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris

Iris 'Austrian Sky'     £ 5.00
An older variety bred by Darby in 1959. Light blue with a darker blue thumbprint on the falls.

Iris 'Cherry Garden '      £ 5.00
The deservedly popular dwarf iris bred by Bennett Jones in 1966. Deep maroon red.

Iris 'Green Spot'     £ 5.00
An older variety - white with a large green spot on each fall.

Iris 'Hocus Pocus'     £ 5.00
An unusual mix of lavender and copper.



Intermediate Bearded Iris

Iris 'Aqua Taj'      £ 7.00
2002 introduction by Barry Blyth. Medium blue with bronze beards.

Iris 'Cimarron Rose'     £ 5.00
Rosy beige standards, maroon falls. Not the strongest of scents, but certainly very pleasant.

A reblooming intermediate in white with strong orange beards.

Iris 'Langport Wren'     £ 5.00
AGM A very deep reddy brown. Special.

Peachy pink with tangerine beard.

Tall Bearded Iris

Laced coral pink. An older variety with a reputation for growing well. Tangerine beards. Best in a sunny well-drained position. Tall Bearded Ht cm

Pale blue standards, deep velvety purple falls. Best in a sunny well-drained position. Tall Bearded Ht 90cm

Ruffled standards of coppery brown, chestnut red falls overlaid with a delicate velvety blue bloom. Best in a sunny well-drained position. Tall Bearded Ht c. 90cm

Black falls and indigo standards make it much sought after.

Light grey lavender standards and dark plum falls.

Deepest purple falls streaked white, with lighter lavender standards.

An easy plant, with pale lilac blue flowers. The cream variegated sword-like leaves are an added bonus.

Standards of greenish yellow, suffused olive. Falls the same creamy background with a narrow brown edge. Much admired and fragrant.

Velvet burgundy falls, softer standards. Rich scent.

Iris 'Rocket'     £ 5.00
Amber and yellow falls, buff yellow standards. Beautifully combined with red aquilegia in the cottage garden at Sissinghurst.

Deep rich purple. Scented. A good doer even on our heavy clay.

White falls with deep blue-purple markings. AGM

Iris 'Windjammer Seas'      £ 12.00
Palest blue infused with darker blue, much admired at the 2007 BIS Iris Convention.
